The VoIP Advisors

Boston-era VoIP consulting — where I learned to sell, got rejected professionally, and started understanding buyers.

What it is

VoIP consulting for Boston-area businesses — evaluating phone systems, running migrations, and being the person who explains telecom invoices to normal humans. This was my stretch of hands-on tech consulting, years before Radical Red Rocket.

Why it existed

I was good with the technology and curious about the people using it. Telecom is a world where every business is a customer, every invoice is a mystery, and every buying decision has a nervous owner behind it. That combination turned out to be a better sales education than any sales job.

What happened

Hundreds of first calls to business owners who didn’t know me. Hundreds of chances to watch how people actually decide: the fear of switching, the loyalty to broken systems, the moment price stops mattering and trust starts. The business did fine. The education did better.

What I’ve learned

This is where the material for I Thought I Was Afraid of Cold Calling comes from. The dials taught me the skill; the reflection years later taught me what the skill was costing. Experiment #001 is, in a sense, a correction to habits forged here.

Past — the consulting wound down, the lessons didn’t.
